Internships At The Boston Channel.com

Learn How You Can Participate In A Web Site Internship

During each semester of the school year and the summer vacation period, WCVB's award-winning TV news Web site, The Boston Channel.com offers three internships at the Web site.

Interns are expected to work a minimum number of hours each week as required by their academic counselors or departments in order to earn academic credit for the experience gained during the internship. Because these are unpaid internships, the ability to earn academic credit is an absolute must. You should consult with your academic advisor to learn what the requirements are before pursuing any internship.

Preference will be given to graduate students or students in their senior year at a university or college, as well as to students who have previous print experience.

Hours for Web internships are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Web site does NOT offer internship opportunities on weekends.

Within the established time frame of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the exact hours are flexible, depending on a student's school schedule and academic requirements, but once determined we ask that the hours remain consistent each week, in order to accommodate other interns.

During a typical internship, Web site interns will:

  • Research and write stories for publication on the Web site;
  • Learn AP style;
  • Learn basics of Web site content management and publication;
  • Learn how to capture and digitize images and video for Web publication;
  • Assist with gathering other content and materials for publication on Web site;
  • By the end of a typical internship, most Web interns have a porfolio of several bylined clips of stories published on the Web site.

    Interested candidates should e-mail a resume and links to any previously published articles to M.R.F. Buckley, Managing Editor, The Boston Channel.com, or mail to same at 5 TV Place, Needham, MA, 02494.

    DIRECTIONS: The Web site is located at WCVB-TV's Needham studio. The station can be reached by commuter rail taking the Needham Heights train from South Station in Boston. The station is about a 1 mile walk from the commuter rail stop. By car, the station is located off Route 128/I-95 at Exit 19B.
