Steelers Release Veteran RB Davenport, Again

POSTED: 3:07 pm EST December 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran running back Najeh Davenport on Monday for the third time this year.

He was first released by the team this past June, but was brought back at the beginning of October to bolster the backfield after the team had lost Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall to injury.

Davenport played four games with the Steelers before the club released him following Week 9. He was signed by the Steelers last Thursday, but was not active for Sunday's 33-10 win over New England.

In two-plus seasons with Pittsburgh, he has rushed for 725 yards and six touchdowns on 169 carries and has caught 33 passes for 377 yards and three scores.

In other moves on Monday, the team signed defensive tackle Scott Paxson to the active roster and re-signed rookie cornerback Roy Lewis to the practice squad.
