BOSTON -- Someone hacked town computers in Sandwich and wired thousands of dollars in taxpayer money to the Russian mafia, according to the Cape Cod Times.Officials said town bank accounts were breached when the hackers stole passwords to withdraw the money through wire transfers.Police said the money was wired to St. Petersburg, Russia, and to banks in Florida and Georgia, the newspaper reported. The town treasurer found the fake transfers when he went to pay the town's bills on Nov. 14. The initial computer breach happened on Nov. 4, and there were four illegal withdrawals during a 10-day period.Officials did not say exactly how much money was stolen but that it was less than $50,000.
