BOSTON -- Gas prices continue their drastic drop with AAA of Southeastern New England saying the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular in Massachusetts is $1.93. That was down 2 cents in one night.
VideosThe good news doesn't end at the pump for all the last-minute Thanksgiving travelers looking to book a trip to Nana's house for the holiday. The nation's major airlines dropped their 14-day advance purchase rules to three days or no advance purchase. So even if customers book on Tuesday they can still lock in a cheap fare.Northwest Airlines, for example, was selling a roundtrip ticket from Detroit to Boston for $200. The same ticket cost $500 this summer.Airlines are struggling to fill empty seats even now, when there are 15 percent fewer seats than last Thanksgiving. Analysts blame the drop in airfares on slumping demand. People are flying less during tough economic times and the folks who might think about flying are opting to drive for a day instead. With gas prices at below $2 a gallon. Many consumers would rather hit the road for a day than wait at the airport.
