A Boston woman was hit in the head early Tuesday and rushed to the hospital suffering from what appeared to be blunt trauma, police said.

Earlier reports indicated she had been shot but police later said that did not appear to be the case.

The 38-year-old woman was hurt at 40 Winthrop St., and taken to Boston Medical Center.

She was in critical condition, according to police.

It was not clear how she was injured or whether any arrests were made.
