Doctor Faces Charge In Girlfriend's Death

Obstetrician Found Dead In Car In 1993

A doctor was charged Monday with conspiracy to commit perjury in connection with the 1993 death of his then-girlfriend, a Stoneham obstetrician.

Doctor Charged With Conspiracy To Commit Perjury

Dr. Timothy Stryker, 56, of Winchester, has always claimed that he had nothing to do with the death of Dr. Lynn Goudey. They had a four-year relationship until Oct. 4, 1993, when the 42-year-old's body was found in her locked Saab at New England Memorial Hospital.

On June 16, 2006, a jury returned a civil verdict finding Stryker responsible for the wrongful death of Goudey. Stryker was ordered to pay Goudey's family more than $7 million, which has increased to more than $15 million with interest since that time.

Stryker filed a motion for new trial in the civil case. The motion included an affidavit from a new witness, Craig Pizzano, who was 18 years old in 1993. Pizzano claimed to have seen Goudey in her Saab in the parking lot of New England Memorial Hospital on the evening that she had last been seen with another man.

Pizzano claimed that the reason he came forward more than 13 years after her death was because he read about the civil verdict and, after he heard about O.J. Simpson writing a book and making money off of his own murder trial, Pizzano wanted to "clear an innocent man."

District Attorney Gerry Leone investigated and determined that Stryker and one of his patients, Richard Chambers, 44, told the witness to fabricate the story, officials said.

Stryker was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit subornation of perjury, seven counts of subornation of perjury, one count of willfully misleading a police officer and three counts of conveying something of value to a witness.

Bail was set at $100,000 after Stryker pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court on Monday afternoon.

Chambers was also indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit subornation of perjury, three counts of subornation of perjury, four counts of perjury, three counts of willfully misleading a police officer and two counts of conveying something of value to a witness.

"We allege that these defendants committed the most serious of frauds upon the court and frustrated our efforts to determine who killed Linda Goudey in the process," Leone said. "We allege that Tim Stryker and Richard Chambers formed an agreement to deceive and then sought out a potential witness to lie and swear to a false alibi."
