BOSTON -- A Boston homeowner was awarded thousands of dollars after he paid a contractor for work that was never finished.NewsCenter 5's Susan Wornick reported Monday that Dino DiStefano appeared in court in November, accused of taking thousands of dollars for home improvements never done."I trusted him. I trusted him like a sucker," homeowner Mike Horner said.
Horner paid DiStefano $35,000 for kitchen renovations. He said that all he got was a mess. DiStefano first made excuses and then disappeared entirely refusing to return money or calls. Horner sued, and won by default.DiStefano didn't show up for the trial, claiming he was sick and couldn't drive, but the judge said DiStefano had plenty of time to settle the case and ordered him to pay Horner nearly $100,000 plus interest. This isn't the only case against DiStefano. As Team 5 first reported in November, he was indicted in Middlesex County for taking tens of thousands of dollars from nearly a dozen consumers. He's scheduled to stand trial in criminal court in June.
