Streaking Celtics Visit Bobcats

(Sports Network) - The defending champion Boston Celtics will try to extend their winning streak to eight games tonight when they take on the Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Boston has been on fire lately with seven straight wins, eclipsing the century mark in each of the last three games and five times total during the streak. In Friday's 102-78 pounding of the visiting Philadelphia 76ers at TD Banknorth Garden, Ray Allen finished with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting.

Kevin Garnett added 16 points and Rajon Rondo ended with 12 assists, six rebounds and six points for the Celtics, who have won by an average margin of 13.7 points over their last seven games.

Boston is allowing a league-low 90.5 points per game and will put its six-game road winning streak to the test this evening in Charlotte.

The Bobcats have won two of three games and will open a three-game homestand Saturday versus Boston, Minnesota and Oklahoma City. They are coming off a 115-108 overtime victory against the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse, as Raymond Felton tied a career-high with 31 points to lead Charlotte to its first road win of the season and largest point total in 2008-09.

Emeka Okafor scored 13 points and pulled down 20 rebounds while Jason Richardson had 21 points in a winning cause. Gerald Wallace had a busy night with 16 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Bobcats. Richardson was back on the court after missing seven straight games with knee inflammation.

Boston went 3-1 against Charlotte last season and has won 11 of the 15 meetings in this series. The Celtics have also won three in a row and five of the seven all-time matchups on the road.

After going nearly six weeks without losing a game, the Boston Celtics have been in a rut. The slumping defending world champions now have to face the NBA's lone remaining unbeaten team at home this season, the Cleveland Cavaliers, tonight at Quicken Loans Arena in a showdown between the Eastern Conference's top two squads.
